International soloist and virtuoso violinist Gil Shaham works with violinist alumni of the New World Symphony (NWS) in a series of four master classes. They feature young professional violinists performing Classical and Romantic masterpieces from the violin repertoire.
NWS fellow Sarah Hyojin Kim performs excerpts from Schubert's Sonata for Violin and Piano "Grand Duo". Although posthumously published in 1851, the sonata was composed in 1817, at a time when Schubert had already begun focusing on works for violin as soloist. In the master class, Gil Shaham focuses on bringing out the musical structure and grammar of the melody-driven piece.
