Tugan Sokhiev is Music Director of Orchestre National du Capitole de Toulouse and Music Director Designate of Deutsches Symphonie-Orchester Berlin, where he assumes the title of Music Director at the start of 2012/13 season.
The relationship between Sokhiev and his musicians in Toulouse is increasingly celebrated - Le Figaro described the partnership as "at the centre of French musical life", while Le Monde wrote of “sokhievmania” after a recent performance in Paris.
He also enjoys a close association with the Mariinsky Theatre and is in demand from orchestras and opera houses worldwide. Plans for the 2011/12 season include returns to Berlin Philharmonic, Finnish Radio Symphony, DSO Berlin, Philharmonia Orchestra, Sydney Symphony and his debut with Melbourne Symphony Orchestra and commitments with ONCT include tours to Germany, South America and the United Kingdom.
Forthcoming opera projects include Tosca at Theatre du Capitole and Boris Godunov at Vienna State Opera. His discography includes critically-acclaimed performances of Tchaikovsky, Rimsky-Korsakov, Mussorgsky and Prokofiev on Naïve Records with his Toulouse orchestra. Their most recent recording of Tchaikovsky's Symphony No. 5 was recently released to critical acclaim.
