At Jazz à Ramatuelle 2018, Hugh Coltman and his musicians perform original compositions, some of which almost sound like satirical fables, highlighted by feverish rhythms and harmonies with pop, rock and blues undertones. The talented 50-year-old English singer has shaped his boisterous voice throughout a career that began with the rock band The Hoax, formed in 1990. Here, with seven top-notch musicians, he brings considerable energy to the festival stage, tinged with humor and an infectious good mood.
It is through exceptional collaborations with blues figures of the last century such as B.B. King that Coltman has managed to make a name for himself on the contemporary jazz scene. In 2007, he joined forces with Belgian pianist Eric Legnini during his tour with Afro Jazz Beat. It is only in 2014, after paying tribute to his mentor with his album Recession - A tribute to B.B. King, that he gets the critical acclaim he deserves, and wins the voice of the year award at the 2017 Victoires du jazz.
