The evening opens with the sounds of the Rio Carnival with Milhaud's Le Boeuf sur le toit, before Galliano and Costa take the stage to interpret Piazzolla's Double Concerto for Bandoneon and Guitar, emblematic of the composer's tango nuevo style created in the 1960s. The dynamic duo continue in one of Galliano's own works, the passionate Beritwaltz, and another Piazzolla favorite, Oblivion, famous for its use in the 1984 film Henry IV. It's time then for the Mexican rhythms of Moncayo and Revueltas, whose frenzied four-movement symphony La Noche de los Mayas pays homage to the pre-Columbian peoples of Mexico. The concert comes to a memorable conclusion with Márquez's Danzón No. 2, a percussive dance with traditional themes that will have you on your feet!
